Coolamon is a small agricultural town in the Riverina, with a population of approximately 4400 people. The main industries in Coolamon include farming and rural businesses, as well as steelworks/supplies, with Coolamon Steelworks responsible for manufacturing and supplying Coolamon Chaser Bins nationwide. Other significant industries of employment in Coolamon include hospitality, healthcare, and education.
The Wiradjuri people were the original inhabitants of the region. Coolamon gets its name from the Wiradjuri term "Gullaman," meaning a versatile vessel for goods, children, and water.
Established when the railway arrived in 1881, Coolamon became a Shire on 3 March 1906. The town features a heritage main street, gardens, and fertile farming lands. The railway's arrival led to the growth of farming communities and essential services.
