Wylies Newsagency is a well-established retail business serving the Temora community and surrounding regions. We offer a broad range of products and services including newspapers, magazines, stationery, greeting cards, gifts, lottery products, tobacco products, and convenience items. Due to continued business growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our store.
Position Overview
The Retail Manager will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the business, ensuring efficient operations, high customer service standards, effective staff supervision, and achievement of sales and profitability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
• Determine and manage the product mix to meet customer demand and maximise sales opportunities;
• Monitor stock levels, coordinate purchasing activities, and maintain effective inventory control systems;
• Formulate and implement purchasing, merchandising, and marketing strategies to promote the business and increase revenue;
• Develop and maintain customer service standards to ensure a positive shopping experience;
• Promote and advertise the business's products and services through in-store promotions and local marketing initiatives;
• Assist customers with product enquiries and provide advice on product selection and use;
• Maintain accurate records of stock movements, sales performance, and financial transactions;
• Prepare and monitor budgets, analyse sales trends, and implement strategies to improve business performance;
• Recruit, train, supervise, and manage staff, including preparation of rosters and performance management;
• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, company policies, and relevant legislation;
• Liaise with suppliers and negotiate purchasing arrangements to ensure product availability and cost efficiency;
• Monitor store presentation and ensure merchandising standards are maintained at all times.
Skills and Experience Required
To be successful in this role, applicants must possess:
• A relevant qualification in Business, Management, Retail Operations, or a related field; and/or
• At least one year of relevant retail management experience;
• Demonstrated experience in staff supervision, inventory management, budgeting, and retail operations;
• Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills;
• Ability to analyse business performance and implement operational improvements;
• Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and retail compliance obligations.
