The Edward River Council acknowledges and embraces the First Nations Peoples, the Wamba Wamba/Perrepa Perrepa Peoples, as the Traditional Owners of the Lands within the Edward River Council area.
Nestled in rural New South Wales, Edward River's history is one of growth and resilience. Settled by Europeans in the 1840s for grazing, it evolved into a thriving agricultural region, specialising in rice, wheat, and canola. Its towns and villages, like Deniliquin and Blighty, form tight-knit communities. The Cobb and Riverina Highways connect them, while natural attractions such as the Edward River itself and Murray Valley Regional Park provide moments of tranquility in this bustling landscape.
Sports on offer in Balranald Shire include Australian Rules football, Cricket, Netball, Tennis and Horse racing as well as a variety of water sports. Balranald swimming pool is generally open from November through to April. There is also a Golf Club, lawn bowls, pony club and skate park.
