Carrathool Shire is a primarily rural area, and is comprised of the town of Hillston, as well as the surrounding villages of Goolgowi, Merriwagga, Rankins Springs, and Carrathool. Carrathool is named after a Wiradjuri word meaning “brolga” or “native companion”.

This role is pivotal to our walnut operation. We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter who is motivated to learn in a dynamic workshop environment. You will be flexible to be on call, as required, to carry out maintenance involved in shift work through harvest and seasonal periods. Assistant Orchard Manager
A leadership role in one of Australia’s largest, most diverse and inclusive agribusiness companies.  Role  The Assistant Manager will work closely with the Orchard Manager on our Avondale Orchard to assist with the growth and development of the Orchard. The role will ensure the strategy, maintenance and development of the Orchard is achieved in line with operational targets. This role will require the candidate to oversee production under the guidance and instruction of the Orchard Manager and learn all aspects of the Walnut Orchard and management of resources and its people. This role is pivotal to deliver on the Stahmann Webster Strategy to maximise production and quality of its products.  Duties include but are not limited to: Understand and execute the relevant Orchard Management Plan  Work with the Orchard Manager to plan and coordinate orchard production Work with the Orchard Manager to maintain crop production and optimal growing conditions Direct and oversee activities on the orchard Work with the technical team to develop and deliver on best practice  Supervising and training staff to ensure quality and work standards are met within budget and company guidelines  Monitor irrigation management  Training and overseeing contractors operating onsite  Oversee the irrigation schedule and assist as required  Oversee the maintenance of all plant and equipment  Maintain accurate records of all routine repairs and maintenance  Essential Criteria, Skills and Experience  Minimum 5 years’ experience working on a large-scale Orchard or Station  Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a similar role in the horticultural industry  Experience in drip irrigation Chemical handling Certificate Valid driver’s licence Desired HR licence Forklift licence   Why Work with Us? History

Carrathool is named after a Wiradjuri word meaning ""brolga"" or ""native companion"", with the original inhabitants of the Carrathool being the Wiradjuri people.

European settlement of the Carrathool Shire area occurred during the 1830s, with land used mainly for sheep and cattle grazing.

The population of Carrathool Shire has gone up and down over the years, with the 2021 census reporting  a population of around 2866 people.

Carrathool Shire is a rural area, with a total land area of approximately 19,000 square kilometres. The land is predominately used for agriculture and horticulture, particularly sheep and cattle grazing and cotton and rice growing.

Like many regional areas, the Carrathool Shire is abundant with thrive with community and sporting groups. Sporting options available include golf, basketball, cricket, rugby league, junior rugby league, touch football, swimming, tennis and volleyball. Community organisations include the Creative arts Council, SES (for community members aged 16+) and Lions Club.
