Things to See & Do
Coming for a weekend visit?
Try these must do suggestions to make the most of your visit.
Saturday
Morning - Temora’s carefully maintained main street provides a varied and interesting shopping experience. Art and craft interests are particularly well catered for and a wide range of clothing awaits your inspection. After relaxing with a cup of coffee, you may care to pick up our self guided tour brochure from the Visitor’s Information Centre and take “A Stroll Around Temora Streets” to explore the graceful Federation architecture of our civic centre.
Lunch. - Lake Centenary, our beautiful aquatic playground, may be found just a couple of kilometres north of Temora. The perfect place for a picnic, the lake is a popular venue for all kinds of water sports, even providing a purpose-built facility for jet-boat racing.
Afternoon - A visit to Temora Aviation Museum is always memorable. Our pre-eminent attraction, its showcase of flying ex-military aircraft are presented to a world-class standard.
Dinner. - Enjoy restaurant or bistro style dining at the Bowling Club and Ex-Services Club, or if you prefer, you have your choice of two Chinese restaurants.
Sunday
Morning - The magnificent new “Bundawarrah Centre” is home to the Temora Rural Museum.
Open daily, a huge collection of well presented Australiana awaits your inspection in the museum’s extensive landscaped grounds. Maintained in working condition, the museum’s collection of stationary engines and tractors are brought to life as a highlight of a feature filled Annual Live Exhibition hosted by the museum in March each year.
Sir Donald Bradman’s childhood home, a modest hut made from hardwood slabs, has been carefully restored and now stands within the grounds.
Lunch. - The Bundawarrah Centre also boasts “Mother Shipton’s”, Temora’s newest café, which offers a tempting menu for a light lunch in its spacious dining room.
Afternoon - Ariah Park is a quaint heritage village just an easy twenty minute drive from Temora along the Burley Griffin Way. Established when the railway extended westward in 1906, the village became a thriving country town in the “Roaring Twenties”. After the Great Depression, progress left the village in its wake, but in the twenty first century its unspoiled charm is becoming recognised. Its 1920s streetscape has been sympathetically restored and a stroll down its tree-lined street, a coffee and a fossick in “Second Glance” or “Yesterday’s Treasures” fills a perfect Sunday afternoon.
